"Rob Williams continues his winning streak with PETROL HEAD, yet another entry in the list of peculiar yet terrific yarns that only he could come up with. This time he’s joined by the superb Pye Parr, whose stunning artwork makes this a must-have".
Garth Ennis (Preacher, The Boys)
-
“PETROL HEAD is bloody great. Big, bold characters, loin-shakingly loud cars, and a dome-delicate world of adventures for our anthropomorphic pollution pumpers to smash through. A reminder for EV evangelists like me that though they may kill you in the long run, big loud engines will always be cool.”
Duncan Jones (Director of Moon, World of Warcraft)
-
“Just read PETROL HEAD #1 from Rob Williams & Pye Parr and it's unreal. This must be one of the most exciting comics, both visually and story, I've seen in ages. Get this ordered. They've done a great job!”
Mark Millar (Kingsman, Marvel’s Civil War)
-
“Like Fury Road f***ed a rainbow!”
Chris Burnham (Batman Inc)
-
"Big, beautiful, smart AND fun-- don't miss this one.”
Rick Remender (Deadly Class, Black Science)
-
“Possibly the most original comic book I’ve seen in a long time.”
Chris Weston (The Filth)
-
“Alex Toth's Hot Wheels via Akira, Wacky Races Beyond Thunderdome, a cranked up Pat Mills/John Wagner Hell trek; the poignancy of an over-the-hill fighter and the cynicism of Rollerball. Art that MOVES AS YOU READ IT.”
Mike Collins (Dr Who)
-
“Engaging story, fine art. As a dedicated follower of future robotics it’’s a must-read for me.”
John Wagner (Creator of Judge Dredd)
-
“The Fast and the Furious with gorgeously-rendered robots in a future that's exciting, meaningful, and also somehow just the right kind of stupid fun. It's so obviously going to be a blockbuster movie. Gear-crunchingly awesome.”
Paul Cornell (Dr Who, Wolverine)
-
“PETROL HEAD was a kick right to the side of my, admittedly soft and human, brain! What happens when warbots go vintage? This is a world where content and entertainment rule, it's AI meets THE RUNNING MAN. Petrol Head is a blue collar hero for a post-apocalyptic society, and his story's a death race bum rush of an adventure that you can't ignore!”
Steve Orlando (X-Men, Midnighter)
-
“I'm not even remotely into cars but Pye's art here demands it own colourful toy line, gorgeous!”
Duncan Fegredo (Hellboy)
-
“Pye Parr’s lusciously dynamic art is a revelation, bringing post-apocalyptic racing to life in ways that shouldn’t be possible on the page, and Rob Williams’ engaging story of a girl and a robot on the run will appeal to grownups and kids alike”
Alex De Campi (Grindhouse, Bad Karma)
-
“PETROL HEAD is the most fun I’ve had reading a comic in years.”
Ollie Masters (The Kitchen, Snow Blind).
-
“A concussive blast of pure comics - part Rollerball, part demolition derby. Some of the most beautifully rendered Car Fu action you've ever seen, but that's a real heart you can hear humming under the hood.”
Alex Paknadel (All Against All, Red Goblin)
-
“PETROL HEAD launches you head-first into a brutal and vibrant future that feels both outrageous and tragically plausible. It’s a clever, explosive and visually stunning must-read from two of the best storytellers in comics!”
Torunn Grønbekk (The Mighty Thor, Punisher)
-
“With all the humor and heart that's become Williams's trademark, and all the howling hi-octane verve that'll quickly become Parr's, PETROL HEAD is the most exciting car comic in a generation. Somehow progressive and retro, it wears its britpunk sci-fi roots on its oil-spattered sleeves."
Si Spurrier (Hellblazer, Coda)
-
“Like a high-octane technicolor episode of The Twilight Zone, only souped up and ready to rumble. An unmissable comic.”
Chris Condon (That Texas Blood)
-
“Start your engines for a high-octane, all-age SF thrill ride! Robots, races, intrigue, social commentary and a smart-talking cybernetic blue tit called Dave! Williams and Parr have a winner on their hands!”
Cavan Scott (Star Wars: The High Republic)
-
“PETROL HEAD takes a high concept and launches it even higher, into the stratosphere! A book packed with greasy retro futurism, Pye Parr’s luminous visuals are as sharp as Rob Williams’ satirical edge, you better get in gear.”
Declan Shalvey (Old Dog, Alien)
-
“PETROL HEAD #1 is an incredible first issue. Rob Williams has crafted a story full of whip-smart sci fi and high-octane action and Pye Parr’’s art is revelatory. And it’s a demolition derby for the future of mankind. Don’t miss it! ORDER!!”
Scott Snyder (Batman, Wytches)
-
“I had the pleasure of reading PETROL HEAD and it's everything you could want in a debut, action, heart, mystery -- and incredible art. The whole team shines, and the colors are outstanding. Hats off.” Gerry Duggan
Gerry Duggan (X-Men, Dead Eyes)
-
“Rob Williams and Pye Parr have built a monster hot-rod of a sci-fi comic, a smoking, shuddering beast driven by rowdy robots, premium-grade adrenaline, and wholehearted humanity. Stripped-down by smart, witty writing and souped-up with astonishingly inventive art, Petrol Head carries you off on a post-apocalyptic adventure like you’ve been strapped to the hood of a speeding car and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.” Alec Worley
Alec Worley (Star Wars, Black Beth)
-
“Tyres screaming, engine growling, you don’t so much read PETROLHEAD as grip the pages and cling on for a white-knuckle ride. Williams and Parr have created the most turbo-boosted comic of the year.”
Matt Smith (Editor: 2000 AD)
-
“Got a sneak peek at PETROL HEAD and absolutely loved it. Stunning world building and character driven sci-fi, this book absolutely rips. It’s Blade Runner with Fury Road car chases and so much more -- available for pre-order now, don’t miss it!”
Robbie Thompson (Suicide Squad)
-
“A high-concept, high-octane science fiction epic that explodes off the page. A masterful fusion of words and pictures: Willams and Parr are at the top of their game.”
JM DeMatteis (Spider-Man, Justice League, The DeMultiverse)

The O-Zone
One of the SIX remaining Domed Cities containing what is left of the human race. Here the population go about their lives and try and find happiness in a doomed world, which is where entertainment comes in… Entertainment like The Petrol Head races.
The Climate died, refugees fled flooded, baked lands. The lucky ones made it to the few dome cities. The domes were sealed. No passports. No way in. No way out. The storms lashed long enough that eventually the hammering from those outside went away…

PETROLHEAD 5000
Inside the O-ZONE, metropolis life has grown and tech has prospered. Robots do pretty much everything, including entertain. Hot Rod ROBO-RACES around the streets have long been one of the chief forms of entertainment here, with incredible vehicles travelling at monstrous speeds. If they crash and burn, no lives are lost. Explosions and uber-violence and mangled robot bodies are part of the fun. Part of keeping people from noticing that, in fact, they’re prisoners in this place until they die.
It’s a nihilistic thrill for a nihilistic world. And over the decades the sport became self-sustaining. Robot mechanics and robot designers built to design the roboracers. For a while there was even a rare breed who did all three - the PETROL HEADS. Once a legendary breed, they were all smashed to pieces against the walls or burnt or exploded.
Except a few rare survivors… -
Petrol Head
The Petrol Heads were designed by marketing teams and via focus groups to appeal to certain demographics. Their names and looks were chosen with absolute precision. Except one.
One was made from spare parts and was such an ugly, big, unwieldy design that they didn’t even know what to call him. So no one bothered giving him a name.
That’s why he became ‘Petrol Head.’
And after watching all his brothers and sisters ‘die’ in the brutal races, Petrol Head decided to retire and lock himself away in his junkyard. Away from the humans who cheered as his brethren broke apart and burnt and scattered on the roads. That was decades ago. New designs came along and got sleeker, faster, deadlier. Even if Petrol Head wanted to get back in the game (he really doesn’t) he couldn’t compete. He’s old and heavy and - much like the human race - past his lifespan. -
Save humanity
In a Climate Crisis-ravaged future metropolis, an old, grumpy, obsolete, smoke belching, cigar-chomping, ROAD-RACER ROBOT is one 12-year-old girl’s only route out of the city with a secret invention that could save humanity.
Decades ago, PETROL HEAD was created to build racing cars in a city FULL of racing cars. Now every cutting edge, way-moresleek pedal-to-the-metal robot in the city of O-ZONE is coming after his obsolete robo-ass - at high speed. It’s a race to the planet’s finish line!
